About Millbrae
The City of Millbrae is located in San Mateo County on the northern San Francisco Peninsula, immediately west of the San Francisco International Airport. The City covers 3.25 square miles primarily between the Bayshore (101) and Junipero Serra (280) Freeways. Millbrae is a suburban, residential community that is essentially built out with 70% of the City's 8,200 dwelling units comprised of single-family units.
Millbrae retains its "small town" feel while its economy continues to expand, as it remains linked to the growing airport and related tourism. The City planned a major downtown revitalization with the arrival of the new San Francisco Bay Area Rapid Transit (BART) Station.
A five member City Council elected to four-year overlapping terms governs the City Government, incorporated in 1948. The City Council appoints the City Manager who serves as the City's chief executive officer. Millbrae is a general law city. Department Heads are appointed by the City Manager. The City is organized into the following departments, which provide direct City services: Community Development, Finance, Administration, Admin Services, and Public Works. Administration includes the executive and legislative offices as well as the City Clerk and legal services. Admin Services includes Human Resources and Recreation. The City contracts with the San Mateo County Sheriffs office and Central County Fire for police and fire services.

Description
The City of Millbrae Invites Applications for the Position of Seasonal Maintenance Worker (Parks).
THIS POSITION IS CONTINUOUS.
DEFINITION:
Under general supervision, this position requires demonstrated competency and increasing independence, knowledge and ability in performing routine and special assignments in the Parks Maintenance Division.
DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS, FEATURES, REQUIREMENTS:
This classification is full-time position assigned to parks maintenance. Includes on call rotation and weekend rotation. Assistance to other departments in emergency and non-routine situations.
SUPERVISION EXERCISED AND RECEIVED:
Receives general supervision from Parks Maintenance Supervisors and ongoing training on a wide variety of equipment, operational rules, guidelines, procedures and methods.
IMPORTANT AND ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
Performs mowing, weeding, trimming, pruning, cultivating, fertilizing, pest control, planting and cleaning of lawns, trees, plants, and parks; removes and disposes of trash and litter; maintains park and maintenance equipment, buildings and facilities; maintains irrigation systems; performs construction and demolition of park facilities, drainage, low-voltage electrical and irrigation systems for new, expanded and renovated park facilities as part of capital improvement projects; performs minor plumbing or building repair duties; operates small trucks, dump trucks, ride-on and walk-behind mowing equipment; may be required to operate heavy equipment; utilizes a wide variety of construction tools and mechanical equipment; may be required to interact with customers on site or when requested; may be required to utilize department or City-wide software applications to maintain records or perform various duties. Involves significant time walking, stooping, bending, squatting, walking, lifting heavy objects, operating hand and power tools, equipment, and vehicles on a daily basis. Considerable time spent working outdoors in occasional extreme heat and cold; applying pesticides and chemicals to plants, lawns, shrubs and trees. Assists in the general cleaning and maintenance of the Corporation Yard.
JOB-RELATED QUALIFICATIONS:
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Knowledge of: Standard and job-specific methods, materials, terminology and safe work practices of maintenance, construction, and gardening/landscape work; maintenance equipment and tools.
Skill in: Physical stamina and strength to operate a variety of tools and equipment, perform physical tasks for long periods of time, and ability to lift light and heavy loads (20-100 lbs.); physical flexibility to move objects and operate equipment; demonstrate ability to safely operate and drive vehicles and equipment.
Ability to: Listen, understand, retain, follow, apply verbal and written instructions or directions; learn effective and safe operation of equipment and tools; establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with others; respond courteously to public inquiries; recognize and use safe work practices; learn and retain specific and general information concerning equipment, functions, and projects; be available for standby and emergency response coverage (before and after regular work hours; weekends, and holidays); or weekend rotation.
EDUCATION AND TRAINING GUIDELINES:
Any combination equivalent to experience and education that could likely provide the required knowledge, skills and abilities would be qualifying. A typical way would be:
Education: Completion of a job or technical training program in maintenance, construction, or grounds keeping; completion of high school or the equivalent.
Experience: Maintenance Worker -- One year of full time experience in general maintenance, construction, or grounds keeping.
LICENSES, CERTIFICATES, REGISTRATION:
Licenses: Possession of a valid California Class "C" Driver's License and a good driving record.
SELECTION PROCEDURE:
A completed City of Millbrae application must be submitted via CalOpps before the recruitment closes. Incomplete applications will not be considered. The most qualified candidates may be invited to participate in an oral interview.
MEDICAL EXAMINATION:
Appointment is contingent upon the results of the job related medical evaluation which will include a physical examination, administered at no expense to the candidate. A drug screening test will be administered as part of this exam.

Criminal and personal history background checks may be performed.

The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
